Where to Eat Royal Oak: Carryout
During the week I typically make our dinners at home. However if we aren’t going out to dinner Friday and Saturday we are usually ordering carryout. Here are our favorite places to order carryout from. Not all restaurants are actually in Royal Oak but all either deliver within Royal Oak or are less than a 10minute drive to pick up your order.
About SHINThai
Cozy, modern stop for familiar Thai basics with a focus on unique, artful presentation.
Why I Love It:
I absolutely love thai food, I think my favorite thing about it is after you finish eating thai you don’t feel like trash afterwards like heavier fried food. ShinThai is one of our 2 favorite go to carryout out places with dishes that are good in portion size and a ton of flavor!
Must Order Dish:
Hot & Sour Soup: Water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, green onions, peas and carrots. Sweet and Sour flavor. ($3.50)
Pad Pak: Broccoli, peapods, baby corn, mushroom, carrots, water chestnuts and cabbage in savory brown sauce ($13.50)
Pad Thai: Traditional sauteed rice noodles with bean sprouts, green onion, egg and topped with crushed peanuts. ($13.50)

For spice level I like hot and I get spice level: HOT and this is plenty hot for me. My husband gets spice level: MILD. I would recommend going lower in spice level and you can always and siracha at home because one time I got it too hot and had to throw it out.

About Anita’s Kitchen
Warm, family-run eatery serves up a wide selection of Lebanese fare plus beer & wine.
Why I Love It:
I can’t say enough food things about Anitas kitchen, if you are in the mood for Lebanese food and in the area this is your place to go! Honestly everything I’ve gotten from here has been fantastic. The food is always super fresh and full of flavor. This is another spot that after you eat a meal here you don’t feel like trash because of their fresh and real ingredients.

Fried Cauliflower: cauliflower florets flash fried, served with dill tahini sauce ($8)
Lemon Lentil Soup ($4)
Chicken Shawarma Entree: chicken, brown rice, hommus, tabbouleh, garlic sauce, and pickles ($15)

They also have a fantastic family meal deal that we get often when we have friends and family over and are looking to stay in. Or it even works great as meal prep for lunches during the week. They have small, medium, & large family meals available and would 10/10 recommend as they are always such a hit!

About Bangkok Cuisine
Local chain restaurant serving traditional Thai noodles & rice dishes.
Why I Love It:
When I think Thai food in the Royal Oak area my head either goes to ShinThai or here! Fantastic menu with a large selection of dishes to choose from. The Bangkok chicken is fantastic if you are going for more of a comfort food dish. A similar dish but not has heavy is the Praew Warn, same great flavor however the chicken isn’t breaded in this dish where it is in the bangkok chicken dish.
Must Order Dish:
Pad Thai: Sautéed rice noodles with eggs, bean sprouts and green onions, garnished with crushed peanuts. ($11.95)

The Bangkok chicken is by far their most popular entree, if you love the flavor but looking for something slightly lighter (aka not breaded chicken) I would recommend the Praew Warn. Same great sauce and flavor just with added veggies and grilled chicken.

Longtime neighborhood hangout with a woodsy cabin feel offering a full bar, pub food & TV sports.
Why I Love It:
Mt Chalet is pub food done right, honestly I’ve tried a lot on their menu and haven’t found anything I didn’t like. Just because this is a neighborhood hangout spot don’t over look the quality of this food menu. If you are looking for comfort/bar food for a cozy night in I would 100% say this is it!
Must Order Dish:
Buffalo Chicken Sliders: comes with 2 sliders + fries (Buffalo or classic) shredded lettuce and choice of american or bleu cheese ($9) Additional sliders ($3.50)
Southern Style Chicken Tender Dinner: Fries, coleslaw and dipping sauce ($17)
Rustic Club: Turkey, ham, swiss, cheddar, bacon, avocado, lettuce,
tomato & mayo on grilled Italian ($13)

About Royal Oak Brewery
Brewpub with a heated beer garden offers beer on tap alongside a from-scratch American menu.
Why I Love It:
Casual fun spot to brewery that happens to have an impressive food menu. They also have a great, slightly hidden, outdoor seating area which is rare to find in Royal Oak and noteworthy during beautiful Michigan months.
Must Order Dish:
Brewhouse Nachos: Fresh tortilla chips covered with melted cheeses, diced tomatoes and onions. Topped with sour cream, guacamole and jalapeños. Served with housemade salsa ($14.50) | Add chicken or ground beef ($4.50)
Loaded Pepperoni: Pizza sauce, Mozzarella cheese and lots of pepperoni ($14)
Nashville Hot Chicken: Spicy breaded chicken breast flash fried and topped with shredded lettuce, dill pickle chips and mayo ($15)
Grilled Vegetable Sandwich: Grilled portabella, zucchini and roasted red pepper topped with Mozzarella cheese and a lemon arugula salad. Served open face on grilled rustic Italian bread with tomato marmalade. Served with a house salad ($15)
Baja Fish Tacos: Fresh Tilapia, beer battered and fried, topped with a remoulade sauce, pico de gallo and fresh cabbage on a flour tortilla. Served with black bean and corn salad. ($15)

Reservations available online or over the phone. Carryout available and can order online. We’ve gotten carryout from here numerous times and it was quick, hot, and delicious. The only food item I wouldn’t recommend getting are the burgers they are good but not great and thought everything else I’ve tried here was notably better.

About D’Amato’s
Chic eatery with an upscale vibe offers rustic Italian fare, an extensive wine list & live music.
Why I Love It:
If you are looking for some carry out Italian in the Royal Oak Area D’Amatos is a go to. My husband and I typically get two entrees and a pepperoni pizza to split. This is a lot of food for two people and we typically have leftovers.
Must Order Dish:
Meatballs: Our house-made meat sauce and three pork and beef meatballs from Mrs. P’s recipe book ($11)
Pepperoni Pizza: Large pepperoni, tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese topped with fresh oregano with a butter parmesan crust ($13)

Why I Love It:
Honestly, this is a newer spot in downtown Royal Oak. I’ve never dined here in person but have gotten carryout a handful of times and every time we’ve gotten it it was fantastic. The food has always been warm, good quality, and quick! It will continue to be on our rotation for carryout in the future.

Alambre Shrimp Tacos: Tree tacos on corn tortilla with your choice of meat, mixed with bacon chorizo onions poblano peppers, and melted cheese. ($16)
